Runners came out in their droves for the Tiverton Foxhounds meeting, which featured good racing despite the last four races taking place in downpour.

The runners to entries ratio was high with 87 runners from 150 entries, the meeting particularly well supported by trainers from Wales.

Reigning national champion Polly Gundry rode a double, taking the 16 runner intermediate on The Kings Fling and the Restricted on Little Native, the latter owned and trained by Richard Kelvin-Hughes.

In the Restricted she denied Godfrey Maundrell his 101st winner by just a length Maundrell having notched up his century a fortnight ago. The Kings Fling had the smart Mensch, one of the many visiting runners from Wales, and Leon Garcia back in the placings.

Jabiru walked over in the members' race last year, but found three willing to take him on this time. However, he wasn't extended and trotted round to beat Rosalee Royale and Now Young Man decisively, under Darren Edwards.

Edwards was in the winners' enclosure again in the first division of the maiden on board Hug The Bend the placings had been reversed in this race following a stewards' enquiry. A Romp Too Far finished first by a head but
was ruled to have impeded Hug The Bend in the closing stages.

Another horse to repeat last year's victory was Miss O Grady, partnered by Michael Miller. They took the Mixed open, and initiated a double for trainer Sally Alner which was completed when owner/rider Dido Harding partnered
Unlimited Free to take the PPORC members/ Dodson and Horrell race.

Harry Fry is the young rider in form. Fresh from winners at Black Forest Lodge a week ago, and Wadebridge the day before, he took the second division of the maiden on the Cattistock qualfiied Scarlet Glory. All three winners have been trained by his mother Dr Caroline Fry. Scarlet Glory is a Past Glories mare who is also related to the winner of division three, Martby, one of a long line from the Atkinson stable.
