Lauderdale at
MOSSHOUSES

On Sunday the Lauderdale Hunt staged an 8 race card at Mosshouses. The day provided some exciting racing and apart from Balisteros’ win the highlight was a treble for Clive Storey.

Balisteros showed no ill effects from his tough race the previous day when accounting for Pharmistice in the Ladies. Pharmistice and Nicola Stirling set a searching gallop but Jill Wormall on Balisteros covered every move and taking it up at the last the pair stayed on just too strongly for Pharmistice and the strong finishing Riparius. The second and third should score if avoiding the prolific winner.

Clive Storey took the riding honours with a treble. He opened up with a cosy success on the Bobby Brewis trained Sunnycliff who showed his liking for good ground when taking it up three out and easily holding the much touted Superior Weapon. Border Glory took the minor honours while in behind Boris Brook finished really well having got well behind early on. He loves firm ground and may yet score again.

Clive secured his second win on Big Bark in the first division of the Maiden when they accounted for Test of Loyalty and Myles of Moss. The winner and runner up were together at the last but a better jump gained the initiative for Big Bark and he stayed on nicely to see off Test of Loyalty. The third came from off the pace to look dangerous at the third last but couldn’t quicken with the first two. A maiden win is a real possibility.

The treble was completed in the concluding race when he scored aboard the Nick Hargreave trained Ardnut. The winner was sent to the front some way from home but was pressed by Blackchesters and The Dyke Louper. The last named cracked first and Ardnut and Blackchesters were locked together at the last. Blackchesters produced the better leap but Ardnut quickened up nicely to land the spoils. The winner should find a restricted in time while the runner up must surely lose his maiden tag before long.

Elsewhere Mini Cruise and Luke Morgan saw off Kings Lane in the Hunt race while in the restricted Divet Hill made all to easily account for Dun Rose. This run confirms the winner needs fast ground to show his best and this good looking son of Milieu should progress even further next season. The runner up tried to keep tabs on the winner to no avail and perhaps slightly softer ground would suit better.

In the Mens Open Riverside Run under a vigorous Jimmy Walton ride saw off Dennet Lough and Todcrag. The winner was another to show improved form and while he did this well enough he still doesn’t strike me as a true Open class horse. The runner up stayed on well enough while Todcrag ran on really well after getting a little outpaced as the tempo increased. He should score soon.

In the PPORA Mares race Strathmore Lodge and Dale Jewett came with a well timed run to take command at the last and account for Little Santa and Kirsty Hargreave. The winner did this nicely while the runner up showed form equivalent to her early season effort and can land another race or two in due course.
