York & Ainsty
Easingwold
Sunday 25th April 2010
by Will Milburn

The York and Ainsty meeting was held this weekend at Easingwold and ground staff did a tremendous job to produce some excellent racing conditions, which resulted in some large fields and excellent finishes.

The fairytale story of the day came in the Members race and saw ex jockey Rachel Clark come out of retirement to ride her uncles horse Glad Star. The pair made almost all the running and stayed on very well from the last to win. That’s Racing travelled well throughout but could never quite reach the leader, Widemouth Bay was back in third. Glad Star was meant to be ridden by his owner Stephen Clark who had shed 3 stone so he could take the ride, however was denied his licence by the BHA. Not only did Rachel win the race, she won the trophy for first heavyweight Lady and was the most popular winner of the day.

The team in form on the day was that of Karen Tutty who managed two winners and a third. Gemma Tutty finally got of the mark in the Ladies Open by winning her first race aboard Astral Prince, the pair came to lead at the last and stayed on well under a driving finish to win under an excellent ride from his jockey. Sister was Pip back in third on the short priced favourite Blanding’s Castle, who after been prominent for a lot of the race stayed on the one pace for third, with pace setter Paradise Bay keeping on in second. Astral Prince looks to have a special place in the Tutty yard as now Nigel, Pip and Gemma have all claimed victories aboard him.

The Tutty family went on to make it a double on the day when L’oudon powered home to win comfortably ahead of the 12yo Browns Beck. Browns Beck was left well clear three out, however John Dawson and L’oudon stayed on extra well entering the straight to win going away. Over To Joe stuck on for third.

A big shock came in Division 2 of the Open Maiden when 50-1 shot Darren scooted home from three out to win well. The strong travelling Alforone looked the only danger but could only find the one pace up the run in whilst Buckshaw weakened back in third. The winner was unsold through Doncaster sales however was then subsequently bought in the bar for 600 pounds as the owner did not want to take it back to Ireland.

Another shock result came in the confined race, which saw an easy success from Knoxhill Archie who had previously pulled up on all of his appearances this season. Going to the lead three out, John Dawson was always going well and pushed his mount out to beat the staying on Turbo and complete a three timer for jockey John Dawson. Johnny Venture finished very strongly back in third and looked like he could be returning to form. The winner is a horse that seems to come rite towards the end of the season, as he showed last year with wins at Easingwold and Mordon.

Division 1 of the Open Maiden went the way of the Tom Tate trained Nothing Left who was given an excellent ride by John Dawson. Nothing Left was third jumping the last but was driven out to get up on the line and beat Victor who ran another improved race and looks on the upgrade, whilst Lewesdon Tom finished like a train into third and should find a race soon.

The Restricted race saw Rich Hill take the spoils with some ease and beat Lewesdon Duchess back in second. Rich Hill was always travelling well joined leader Lewesdon Duchess two out and quickened clear after the last win easily. Lewesdon Duchess had no response back in second whilst Attrapeur was back in third.

The final race on the card was the Open Maiden race and there were several well supported horses, one of which was Sharmon who was backed down from 12-1 into second favourite. Sharmon pulled extremely hard and was still leading two out, however had no response to Red Roxy’s charge who made rapid progress from three out and quickened clear after the last to win easily. Sharmon should find a race in second with Essennbee back in third. Red Roxy was bought four years ago by the current owners as an unbroken six year old off a gentleman who is based just up the road from owner Keith Anderson.
