South Midlands Area
Club On a day of brilliant sunshine Tweseldown hosted the South Midland Hunt Club point-to-point on Sunday. Visiting horses and riders dominated the meeting and not until the last of seven races did Surrey jockey, Philip York, score a blow for the Sandhurst Area. On Peppershot, who had unseated his rider on his two previous appearances this season, York scored his seventh success of the season with an easy 25 length win in the Astaire & Partners Conditions race. “Peppershot did his best to dump me just after halfway once again,” laughed York, “but in the main he jumped well and I’m sure he’ll win again now his fencing is improving.” Carey Buckler, unseated from Ask Henry at the first fence of the Ladies Open, was concussed and taken to hospital for observation. Carey was discharged in the evening and is now back home in Dorset. The race was won convincingly by Oracle des Mottes, ridden by 2006 champion lady rider Rachel Green.
