Ystrad Taf Fechan
Isabel Tompsett landed a double at the Ystrad Taf Fechan Steeplechases with Lady Myfanwy (members) and Chesnut Wood (confined).
Lady Myfanwy, owned and trained by husband and wife team Paul and Myfanwy Miles came home six lengths ahead of stable mate Valjean ridden by Isabel's boyfriend John Llewellyn.
Chesnut Wood, owned by Edmund Roberts and trained by his daughter Beth, and who was winning over the course for the fourth time, finished alone after solitary rival Gray Knight was pulled up two fences from the finish.
Josh Harris, 19, had an easy win in the men's open on the Sarah Kent trained Scotch Corner who won by a distance from the odds-on favourite Derring Dove.
In the ladies' open, Bobosh, ridden by Chloe Roddick, and odds-on favourite Sailors Folly partnered by Polly Gundry, had the race between them for most of the way. However, Jodie Hughes brought Steve Flook's Fantastic Champion with a good run three fences from the finish and went on to score a seven length victory over Bobosh after Sailors Folly was pulled up before the last fence.
Flook also trained the young horse maiden winner Howard Howard who, ridden by Felix de Giles, won by three lengths from Billy Lane. Flook, who bought the horse for just £800 as an unbroken three-year-old, says he is the best horse he has ever trained.
Tim Vaughan made every post a winning one on Jules and Rod Thomas's Wareyth in the aged maiden and had 20 lengths to spare over Call The Mark at the finish. Wareyth's trainer Beverley Thomas said, "I tried to get my brother Rod to sell Wareyth but he loves the horse so much he wouldn't part with him so I'm glad he won today."
Meanwhile, leading Welsh National Hunt jockey Christian Williams, who has been sidelined owing to injury for some months now, was in attendance at the meeting and he tells me he will soon be riding again which is great news. It was good to see him looking so fit and enthusiasts will wish him all the very best on his return.

The Welsh Point-To-Point Grand National is the feature race at next Saturday's Pentyrch meeting at Bonvilston where the course is being watered on a daily basis (First race 2:00pm).
