LAMERTON
KILWORTHY Easter
Saturday 26th March 2005
by Lee Glanville
Lamerton at Kilworthy, Saturday,
March 26 Sibling rivalry saw brothers Tim and Mark Dennis fighting
out the finish of the first division of the confined maiden at
Kilworthy where a huge bank holiday crowd roared home the winners
at the Lamerton point to point.
Tim Dennis got the nod on his
father' Walter's Stars'n'Stripes, trained near Bude, ahead of Mark
on the favourite Jemanette with Shirley Greenaway's Madame Cholet
(Mervyn Woodward) running well in third at the huge price of
50-1.
It was a day for dour stayers,
the ground being testing on a course which already suits those with
stamina.
Guy Weatherley notched up his
eighth win in the area this season, this time on Ballysicyos,
trained by Ollie Jackson, which hacked up in the Mixed Open,
repeating last season¹s victory on the course. Mandy Hand's
Karadin was second after some good performances in ladies' opens
earlier in the season.
Mandy had already gone one
better in the second division of the Confined maiden when Zoralo
got home ahead of favourite Tight Corner (Tim Dennis).
Farrier John Berwick is having a
great season with his two horses Bruthuinne and Peter's Two Fun.
The latter, who had run as a two year old in France, looked great
in the paddock at Kilworthy, and gave Derek McKenna a comfortable
victory over Jennifer Congdon on the experienced Possible Pardon.
The ground took its toll in this race as both Gudlage - a winner at
Buckfastleigh last week - and Fossy Bear were pulled up.
Biggest field of the day was in
the 15 runner restricted which looked to be going the way of either
O'Ech or Mighty Mack who battled it out in the lead throughout. But
O'Ech (Derek McKenna) fell at the second last and Mighty Mack
(Richard Woollacott) came down too, leaving Sue Young on
Lirkimalong to pick up the spoils. The race had been full of drama
as young Mary Biddick went out through the wing at the third last
on Frankly Fear.
Only two finished in the closing
Intermediate, Teddy Boy (Richard Woollacott) beating Eskimo Gold on
whom Leslie Jefford was deputising for the injured Martin
Sweetland, the in form Off The Hook and Ian Hambley having parted
company four from home.
Mark Munrowd enjoyed the
members' race as Wendys Dynamo justified favouritism with a cosy
win.
