FORM NOTES

by Dom Bradshaw

MEMBERS
Colonel Blazer
I thought this one might be a short runner, but he stayed on nicely to win well carrying 13st in a fast time, eleven seconds faster than the Mens Open. Taking this into account, he should be good enough for Confineds at least.

Total Relief
Only a 6yo and still eligible for Restricteds. On this, he should be able to take one without any problem.

Curtainsatchopwell
Set off like a scalded cat, but stopped approaching the hill. He does seem to barely get the trip but should be good enough to take a Restricted on an easy track, such as Easingwold.

CONFINED
Concerto Collonges
Appreciated every yard of the trip and stayed on dourly up the hill. His ability to stay and jump is a strong asset and he can score in Hunter Chase class again this season.

Pharlindo
Looked the winner approaching the last but stopped quickly. He's a bit of a quirky character, but can make amends later in the season.

Gudlage
A 5yo 7f winner at Newmarket in 1998, you'd have probably ignored him if it wasn't for the David Easterby connection. He ran and jumped superbly until a mistake at the 15th and was nursed home afterwards. This one will be winning before long.

RESTRICTED
Hazel Reilly
Ridden along for a long way by Lee Bates before outstaying her opposition up the hill. May struggle initially in better class, but is one to keep on the right side of when stamina testing conditions are in her favour.

Tricky Trevor
Looked the winner until Hazel Reilly collared him on the run in. Is very consistent and should be taking a race of this kind before long.

Wills Perk
Subject of a controversial race in the Northern Area last season. Ran well, but couldn't quicken up the hill with the first two. Highly regarded by connections and should be scoring in his native Northern Area before long.

Son Of Sam
First time in a Restricted, ran really well until coming down at the final fence. He can take a race of this kind with a little more experience under his belt.

MENS OPEN
Blank Cheque
There was noone more surprised than me when I saw David Coates take this one to the front as he's usually held up, but the change of tactics seems to have perked up this old character who looked slightly jaded last season. while in this frame of mind, he can score again.

JR-Kay
Given a great ride by Luke Morgan, but the winner had gone for home before he could quicken. Has the ability to score in Confined\Open class, especially if the partnership with Luke is maintained.

Howayman
Making his first appearance in points for a long time. Slightly disappointing here, but can score on the Northern circuit this season.

For Cathal
A point to point debut for this ex Mary Reveley inmate. Made to look slightly one pace by the winner, but jumped well and is still capable of winning.

LADIES OPEN
Balisteros
What can I say about this one that hasn't already been said? Showed bags of character to stay on from an impossible position and can carry from where he left off in 2000.

Nova Nita
A neat little horse, she stayed on an nearly gave the winner a fright. Looks as though she really appreciates a battle and can score soon.

Mr Freebie
Looked as though he'd need the run, but was under three lengths behind the winner. A very game horse and can progress.

Miss Accounts
This was the first sign of ability that she had shown in a while after a very disappointing 2000. Can give connections a lot of fun this season and maybe pick up a small race.

Marius
Still looking dangerous when getting rid of Vicky Russell at the last. She be able to take a Yorkshire Ladies race or two this season.

MAIDEN (DIV ONE)
Running Mute
Scottish raider with good runs previously under his belt. Can now progress to Restricted success.

Durham Dandy
A cracking points debut by this 5yo, who never run at this sort of trip under rules. Looked the winner until being outstayed by his more experienced rival and can take a Maiden shortly.

Harvestman
Well backed and ran well for a long way before fading into fifth place. Come from a good stable, has a good rider and I'll be surprised if he's not winning before long.

MAIDEN (DIV TWO)
The Other Eye
Showed signs of ability last season, but looks to have improved. Given a good ride here by David Thomas. Has the attitude to step up in grade.

Ailsae
A nice points debut from this 8yo, coming home well clear of the remainder. Jumped well and can take a Maiden.

Shylock
Well supported in the market and ran well until fading into third place. Can score when there is less emphasis on stamina.

Galaxy Minstrel
Give a quiet time, running on into fourth place. Will know more about it next time.

Native Call
Still in with a chance when exiting two out. Came down when reappearing at the Burton the day after. Has ability, but will need to learn to jump a lot better if he's to utilise it.

MAIDEN (DIV THREE)
Havetwotaketwo
Sent favourite backers home happy under a strong ride by David Easterby. Can improve to Restricteds.

Whatacon
Looked a bit of a nutter last season but there was little wrong with his attitude here. Can take a Maiden when a strong pilot such as Guy Brewer is aboard.
