Holderness The Holderness Hunt enjoyed a brilliant days racing on Sunday, with a large crowd turning out to enjoy what turned into glorious weather. The first race was the Hunt Members race and went the way of Ask Bobby, who is owned and trained by the Sowersbys. After a few early blunders, Ask Bobby went to the lead with a circuit to go and slowly drew clear for Guy Brewer, Creative Time laid down a short lived effort between the final two fences but the winner was too good, whilst Beauchamp Oracle completed a modest third. The Ladies Open was by far the highest quality race of the day and Sam Drake continued her impressive display of riding and training with her usefull stayer Keeverfield. Settled in behind the early pace, Keeverfield led three out and stayed on well to win comfortably. Narcisco was restrained well in rear and stayed on well to take second, with Rich Hill staying on well from the back for third and was his best performance to date. The Confined race turned into a dual between Admiral Savannah and Father Murtagh. Father Murtagh and Guy Brewer were well clear approaching two out but was joined at the last by Admiral Savannah and a determined ride from Jacqueline Coward saw her get up to win by a head. Il De Paris is slowly returning to form and finished third. The Mens Open was an incident packed race which resulted in only two finishers. Sherwoods Folly was the lucky winner, detached and struggling with a circuit to go Toby Greenall persisted with his mount and eventually got the better of his sole rival Kinfayre Boy, who made most of the running and finished second. The Restricted went the way of Tom Greenall and David Easterby. Bitter Blue was restrained in rear and made rapid headway turning for home and stayed on strongly to beat Plenty Of Chat in second by a head. Principal Lad ran another consistent race back in third. Favourite Dougall was some what disappointing and can be forgiven this blip. Division one of the Open Maiden went to the Bethell family with Cricket Bat and gave Mark Walford is first winner of the season. The pair made all and although he jumped violently to the left at several fences, they stayed on gamely to beat My Clementine and Jacqueline Coward back in second. Seven Tors ran another good race in third and should soon be able to find a race. The final race went to Stuart Clark with his Budge Ya Butt and was ridden by Andrew Richardson. The pair have been running consistently this season, but a change of tactics saw Budge Ya Butt stay on well up the straight to win. Newcomer Sportingfriendship travelled well through out the race but found little when it mattered and could only manage second, whilst Raasay was beaten only three lengths in third and showed plenty of promise.
