Old Ra Witton Castle
Sunday 6th February 2011
by Will Milburn

The Old Raby hunt held their Point to Point this weekend at Witton Castle, however high winds and an onslaught of rain meant that only a brief day of racing could take place due to the torrential weather.

The first race was the Club Members Maiden race, which saw John Dawson aboard John Wades Braden Brook take the honours. Always in the lead Braden Brook set a steady pace in what was extremely testing conditions and turning into the straight the result was never in doubt as the winner coasted home with his head in his chest. Braden Brook was heavily backed previously at Alnwick however failed to produce the goods that day and is clearly highly respected. The ever consistent Buckshaw had to yet again settle for the minor honours in second, whilst Silk And Roses was back in third.

The second and what turned out to be the final race, was the Intermediate race and saw another all the way success with the Northern trained Northern Revoque. Always in the lead Tommy Morrison set a steady pace aboard his mount and after quickening it up into the straight his pursuers could not get near him, with Liverpool threatening at the last, however through his chances away with a bad mistake and Joseph who has bounced back to form in third.

The remainder of the meeting was forced to abandon due to vehicles been unable to get round the course.
