Pytchley
Guilsborough
Sunday 11th April 2010
by Christina McElhinney

The Pytchley Point-to-Point took place on Sunday, 11th April at Guilsborough, where a good crowd saw a healthy number of runners contest the seven race card.

Gerald Bailey’s Pennytino, under Richard Barrett, stalked the favourite Galaxia in the opening Hunt Members before stealing the lead after the second last on his way to winning nicely; seven contested the race, in which True Legend was third.

The Confined favourite, Gentleman Anshan, disappointed the crowd by pulling up after weakening from the 15th fence but is surely better than that; on the day it was Michael Keyhoe’s Pocket Park, 7/1, who took the spoils with Pleasure Shared two lengths adrift. The first leg of a double for Tom Ellis, the five-year-old by Zaha looks a useful prospect.

Kelly Smith steered Inaro, trained by Mike Burman for Philip Perkins, to victory in the Ladies Open, registering a one-and-a-half length win over Home By Midnight; favourite Limerick Leader finished third under Gemma Hutchinson, who had earlier suffered a fall at the first in the Confined from Mendo. Inaro was registering his second Point-to-Point victory after winning at High Easter last time.

Even-money favourite Coolefind showed his liking for this course with a 10-length win in the Mens Open to complete a double for Richard Barrett, riding for Trainer Bill Warner; his prime victim, Denvale, went second after the last fence with Organiz a further 10 lengths back in third. Adding here to his already impressive record, the performance suggests Judy Wilson’s popular twelve-year-old Coolefind, now with five Guilsborough wins on his CV, can go on to yet more victories this season.

Commander Kev justified 9/4 favouritism in the Restricted with an easy win under James Banks; with his Pointing record now standing at two wins and a second from three starts, the son of Needle Gun looks certain to go on to progress further.

The two divisions of the Maiden were less were less predictable; the first went to 5/1 Lady Mandana under Tom Ellis from 4/5 favourite Just Judy, whilst 20/1 Abouttimeto, ridden by Peter Mann, took the second leg.

The two winners had similar profiles going into the race, having both pulled up on their respective Point-to-Point debuts; Lady Mandana took the lead after the last fence and ran on well to take her division, possibly appreciating the step up to the standard three mile trip, whilst Abouttimeto, who weakened after blundering in his first race, took the lead three from home and ran on nicely to win the closer.
