Veteran rider Marcus Gorman scored a winning double at Tweseldown on Sunday. On the 14 year old Cape Stormer he made short work of landing the Philip Scouller Memorial Mens Open, beating Neckar Valley by ten lengths. The race carried a £500 first prize and Cape Stormer was completing a hat trick of successes. He has now won a total of 16 point-to-point races and is likely to be seen out again at Peper Harow on 9 May.

Gorman, 45, initiated his double on The Tailor Carey, easy winner of the Tweseldown Club race for veteran and novice riders. Firm ground limited the number of runners during the day – there were just 21 in all – biggest field of six going for the Connolly’s Red Mills Intermediate in which Our Chesney beat Meandmrsjones by one length.

Somerset trainer David Pipe and his father Martin arrived by helicopter to unveil the superb Philip Blacker bronze of the late Philip Scouller landing over the last fence on Blanville. Martin Pipe, who trained several of Scouller’s horses, and his son proved popular with the crowd chatting and signing autographs and posing for photographers.
