Burton 83 runners contested 8 races at the Burton point to point on Sunday. This was the final point to point to be held at the racecourse and next year the meeting moves to the Lincolnshire Showground. Jill Dawson of Grainthorpe followed up her win at the Brocklesby on Sir Storm with Virgin Soldier who won readily in the F.P. Watson Ladies Open. Virgin Soldier has won many times under rules but this was his first win since joining the Dawsons. Brocklesby point to point secretary Jenny Burt took the opening Members race with Norfolk Jive who was ridden by Jackie Coward and trained by her mother Cherry. Norfolk Jive had previously finished 3 rd in the Brocklesby members race and beat the Miles Seston trained Cold Play by four lengths. Jenny Burt’s mother, Elaine collected the trophies as Jenny was away at her villa in Portugal. Jackie Coward went on to win division 3 of the maiden race with Buy Onling. Dickie Barrett rode a double starting with Teeton Bollinger who went off the 5-4 favourite in the John Taylor’s Confined hunts race. Teeton Bollinger who won at Tweseldown earlier this month is still only 7 years old and looks sure to improve further. The second leg of Barrett’s double came aboard Kjetil for whom the going and the track were ideal. Kjetil is trained by Gerald Bailey and could well win more Men’s Open races this season when conditions are in his favour. Bailey also trains The Camerengo who finished third in the White Heather Restricted race won by Oliver Greenall who is in contention for the National point to point championship. This was the first leg of a double for Greenall aboard Chorizo. Chorizo had previously won a maiden at Witton Castle earlier this month and looks like he may be one to follow. Greenall also took division 2 of the Maiden race with Bow School who went off the 4-6 favourite. The fastest division of the maiden race went to The Tinkerater ridden by Steve Magee. The Tinkerater is trained by Marti Mulhall who said she may well aim him for the £8000 DBS Hunter Chase Final at Perth on Thursday 15 th May for which he is now eligible. The next point to point in the Midlands Area is the Grove & Rufford at Welbeck next Sunday – 2 nd March, first race 12 noon.
