Fernie
Dingley
Sunday 6th May 2007
by Graham Taylor

Spectators enjoyed some exciting racing when the Fernie held their Point to Point meeting at Dingley yesterday. The course officials had ensured the ground conditions were raceable with extensive watering prior to the meeting and as usual a good crowd attended.

Local rider Gemma Hutchinson took the opening race, The Hunt Members, on the family horse, Limerick Leader, who started a warm favourite. Ungaretti, also from the Hutchinson stable and ridden by brother Sam, took second place but was unfortunately disqualified when he failed to weigh in. Summit Engineering of Blaby sponsored here.

Six horses went to post for the second race, The Confined Hunts, kindly sponsored by Watling JCB and this race produced a good battle between the two market leaders. Arctic Sky ridden by Claire Allen just failing to hold off the fast finishing Kingfisher Niamh, a recent winner at Brafield and well ridden by Paul Cowley.

Six horses again went to post for The Tenon Confined Maiden Race and this was won by the Pytchley seven year old, Miss Bobsleigh with Stuart Morris on board. Kim Buck and Dromin took the minor placings.

Only five horses went to post for the Fernie Four-Miler Mixed Open Race but this produced the most exciting finish of the day. Stuart Morris riding Good Vintage led the field for most of the way but the unfanced Parsonhumfrywebber, cleverly ridden by Claire Allen produced a better turn of foot going into the last fence and held off thirteen year old, Trooper, who took second place on the run in. Welland Valley Feeds were the sponsors here and the winner of this race is now eligible to run in the £10,000 3m ½ f. Volkswagen Touareg Championship H/C Final at Towcester on 14 th May.

Investment Property Search Company were sponsors for The Restricted Race and this produced the first leg of a double for rider Tim Lane. Cosi Celeste, who had already won at Dingley this season, finished three parts of a length clear of Scattered Scarlet on the line with favourite, Rory’stown Boy a further four lengths back in third.

The final race on the card was The Tilton ATV Open Maiden Race and this attracted a field of thirteen. Tim Lane riding the well fancied, The Fast Frog, always had his mount in contention and ran out a comfortable winner from six year old, Taken On Trust and third placed, It’sthekingmurphy.

Next local Midland P to P meeting is the Melton Hunt Club which takes place at Garthorpe on Saturday 12 th May 07.
