CURRE AND LLANGIB HOWICK
19th March 2005
by Colin Cross
Going – Good
Once the morning mist cleared we
were treated to a marvellous spring day for the second Curre and
Llangibby meeting at Howick.
James Tudor took the riding
honours with his first treble on To The Top, Unmistakably and Merry
Path.
To the Top, second at the
previous Howick meeting, was not extended to land the Restricted
race by 12 lengths from Johnsair with Whats Up Jake third.
Unmistakably followed up his
Mens Open win at Cilwendeg last weekend with a facile victory in
the Confined race from St Helier and Hee’s a Dancer. The
winner never came out of second gear and is likely to make his mark
in considerably better quality races later on.
Unmistakably’s stable
companion Merry Path won the Men’s Open without turning a
hair from Velmez and Coldabri, distances 8 lengths and ½
length.
Laurel Seeker and Fiona Wilson
made virtually all the running to land quite a competitive Ladies
Open from Do it Once and Camden Caramel. Their task was made easier
by the departure of market principals Joyeux Royale and Hescondido
on the second circuit.
Boobee was the third leg of a
treble for Cath Williams after Unmistakably and Merry Path when
landing the first division of the Confined Maiden in a canter from
Highway Robbery and Kings Euro. The winner who cost only 1500
guineas at Doncaster Sales last May did not ruffle too many
feathers when racing in Ireland but would appear to have a future
in the pointing field. The favourite What A Surprise was well
beaten when running out at the third last. Norman Jones’s 5
year old Kings Euro kept on steadily and should land a maiden in
due course.
The second division of the
maiden had its share of incidents and once the favourite
Scally’s George was pulled up with a mile to run Miss Man was
soon clear and eventually finished alone. Dai Jones cam in for the
ride after intended jockey Joe Price took a heavy fall in an
earlier race.
